Undercarriage is typically the largest single maintenance cost over the life of an excavator or dozer. A few simple habits can add hundreds of hours to track life.
Keep track tension correct
Over-tight tracks accelerate wear on rollers, idlers and the chain itself; loose tracks de-track and snap. Check tension on the working surface, not on hard standing, and adjust to the manufacturer’s sag spec.
Clean out daily in sticky ground
Packed mud and rock grind components and hide developing problems. A five-minute clean-down at the end of each shift pays for itself.
Rotate and inspect
Inspect rollers and idlers for oil leaks and flat spots, and rotate the machine’s travel direction where the duty cycle allows to even out wear.
