Bucket teeth are the first point of contact between your machine and the ground, and choosing the right profile makes a measurable difference to productivity, fuel burn and wear-part spend. This guide walks through the three things that matter most.
1. Match the tooth to the application
General-purpose (GP) teeth suit mixed digging in soil and light clay. Rock or tiger teeth use a sharper, reinforced profile for fractured rock and shot rock. Flare teeth widen the cut for trenching and cable work. Picking the wrong profile is the single biggest cause of premature wear.
2. Confirm the adapter system
Teeth are not universal — they pin onto an adapter that must match your bucket. Common systems include CAT J-series, Komatsu and ESCO-style. Always confirm the system stamped on your existing adapter before ordering.
3. Buy the pins and retainers together
A worn retainer will drop a brand-new tooth on site. Replace pins and retainers at the same time as the teeth — it is cheap insurance against downtime.
